  • Kaimai Mamaku Catchments Forum meeting

    August 17, 2018
    TBC

This is to cover off some of the outcomes identified at the last Forum held October 2017 at the ASB Stadium and will include the following action areas:

Establishment of the Steering Group made up of 7-10 members who are representatives from iwi, community, recreation, industry, care groups with agencies involved upon request
    Establishment of three Project Groups:
Biodiversity Project Group – the health of the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park is restored (bring back the birds); the indigenous biodiversity beyond the KM Forest Park is enhanced
Water Project Group – 2 sub-groups one focusing on the Waikato, and the other focusing on the Bay of Plenty; as they both have specific needs relative to their area.
People Project Group – the think tank that identifies the inspiration and appreciation for the multiple values of the KMC area; identifies effective planning and funding opportunities; helps the wider public to understand and practice sustainable land and water management (biodiversity) through educational workshops and/or materials.
Draft Terms of Reference to be completed for the Steering Group and each Project Group; these will be sent out to you prior to the Forum so it can be discussed on the day, with any changes made if necessary

One of the focus areas that you have all been aware of is the development of a Pest Animal Management Plan which came from the Strategic Plan 2014, Biodiversity Outcome 1, a multi-pest management control programme plan across the Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park to reduce pest numbers across the whole park.

At the Forum in August, we will be discussing Cam Speedy’s document “A Pest Management Discussion Document: Towards Thriving Kaimai Mamaku Forests, May 2018”. Click here to read that document and pass on to others to discuss in your groups so you can come to the Forum ready to ask questions as well as listen
