BAITING DAY – Well, it looks like the rats have had a bit of a field day in our lockdown absence (RTI results from May 21st). The prolonged warm dry spell combined with a lack of humans in the forest has seen their numbers surge since our Feracol campaign in late Feb.
Today we’ll be placing bait stations throughout the 500ha of the AFP pest managed area to knock them back. Your help would really be welcome to get this important mahi done.
Meet at the kohanga (but maintain your distance from others…!). Clothing and footwear should be suitable for walking off track, plus bring a backpack, gloves and carry a full bottle of water. We’ll provide you with a map and instructions. Due to Alert Level 2 rules, the hot drink and a biscuit once you’re back out of the bush are unfortunately off the menu.
