Get Involved

In or out of the bush, volunteers are our most valuable resource. We have an amazing bunch of people lending their time and expertise to help protect Aongatete Forest and the native species that call it home. Operating the project requires ongoing expenditure, so the generosity of our supporters is hugely appreciated.

We’d love you to join us!

We warmly welcome volunteers who are able to give their time to help us with all kinds of on-going tasks or one-off events, from baiting to baking, trapping to typing.

Each month, we run ‘volunteer days’ on the first and third Wednesday mornings in Aongatete forest at the top of Wright Road. These mornings have a work focus or a ‘discovery’ focus – there are many interesting things to learn about or do in the bush besides pest control.

Throughout the year, specific Saturday mornings are earmarked for major pest control campaigns, which is when many pairs of hands are essential.  There’s always a hot cup or tea or coffee on offer at the kohanga once you’re done and usually a bit of home baking too!
